OUR ENGAGEMENT STORY
I had been making clear for years and years that I was waiting for my diamond ring. It kind of became a joke. Funny enough I wasn’t ready for the real thing, apparently. I didn’t expect anything when he got on one knee, in the pouring rain. Totally shocked, I was worried about his pants getting wet. It’s strange what kind of stuff pops into your head at these moments. Maarten had arranged everything perfectly. For at least a week we drank champagne instead of water, it was great.

“The most romantic thing to say would be when we saw each other for the first time that day, but I’m afraid it’s going to be the first glass of champaign at the toast.”

A MEMORABLE MOMENT OF THE DAY
Actually there are so many, we can’t think of one moment. The most romantic thing to say would be when we saw each other for the first time that day, but I’m afraid it’s going to be the first glass of champaign at the toast. Finally laughing and talking with all of our family and friends, and of course each other.
Another very memorable moment is our “first dance”, flying on chairs lifted by all of our friends. Apart from it being a nice Jewish tradition, you cannot imagine how much fun it is up there. It’s almost like a roller coaster and you could feel everyone’s excitement.

ONE THING WE WISH WE KNEW BEFORE WE STARTED OUR WEDDING PLANS
You can arrange quite a lot to be just as you like. Not everything though.. the weather cannot be controlled. Our location was so wonderful. Wonderful for an outside wedding, inside we couldn’t fit all the people. And then of course it didn’t stop raining, not for a second, the day before the wedding. This was pretty stressful. I can laugh about it now, mostly because in the end the sun came out when we said ‘yes’.

“If there are still going to be issues, Lotte will think of something, and I am going to be totally OK with that.”

IF I COULD GIVE OTHER BRIDES TO BE ONE PIECE OF ADVICE
Actually we hated everyone giving us advice. A lot of people have a different idea of their perfect day. Of course it’s nice when friends and family want to help out. But also all the random people that seem to know just exactly what we needed to do, even though we were nothing alike.

GETTING MARRIED WITH THE HELP OF LOTTE MEANS TO US
Being able to let go.

The day before the wedding everyone was running around at the location, moving stuff, asking questions, making their own plans and, unfortunately, hiding from the rain. We couldn’t imagine how everything was going to be as perfect as we had planned by the next morning. And I had to do my make up, have super sweet and joyful make-up-time with my mother and sisters, unimaginable.
Surprisingly enough I slept wonderfully. And when I woke up, I did have a very nice morning with my mother and sisters. I didn’t feel stressed at all, it wasn’t raining anymore and I remember thinking: “if there are still going to be issues, Lotte will think of something, and I am going to be totally OK with that.”
