A civil wedding, the Dutch way.
And a Dutch wedding, the Spanish way.

HOW WE MET
We met during a goodbye party of a mutual friend who was leaving to America. Thomas introduced himself and we started talking. After that night our contact continued through Facebook, WhatsApp and later on we were having long phone calls during day and night. One of our first dates was biking through Amsterdam. Thomas picked me up with his bike and I was sitting in the front ‘op de stang‘ just like we did at our civil wedding. This became ‘our thing’.

“It’s a commitment for a lifetime and a safe haven for a future family. Whatever life may bring us; we have each other and are an unconditional team.”

OUR ENGAGEMENT STORY
Our first vacation together was a 5-week trip through South Africa. It was the best time ever and at the end of that trip, on the top of the Lions Head, Thomas asked me to move in with him. In February 2017 we went back to this magical country and decided to have a picnic on top of the Lions Head, because it’s definitely the best view ever. Just when I was photographing a squirrel, Thomas went down on one knee and asked me to marry him. Of course I screamed ‘YES’. We were beyond happy and overwhelmed with love. It ended up being the best trip ever and we decided that the Lions Head, now really is ‘our’ magic mountain.

MARRIAGE TO US MEANS
A promise to each other and a celebration that we’ve really chosen for one another. Through good and bad times. It’s a commitment for a lifetime and a safe haven for a future family. Whatever life may bring us; we have each other and are an unconditional team. It may sound silly but marriage makes that bound really stronger. Besides, we are both people that like to celebrate life, and the special moments you experience during this life. And what is more beautiful then celebrating your love with the people you love? That’s also why we chose to get married 2 times; 1 time in Amsterdam (were it all started) and 1 time in Spain, near to Thomas’ parents house, because it’s a magical place where nature is at it’s best.

“A wedding abroad is kind of a big thing that can be difficult sometimes.”

A MEMORABLE MOMENT OF THE DAY
The moment we walked down the stairs at the Amstel hotel. Our family and close friends were standing down on the terrace. It was a very emotional moment because we were beyond happy that this day was finally here. And for our guests it was so emotional to see us so happy in love.

ONE THING WE WISH WE KNEW BEFORE WE STARTED OUR WEDDING PLANS
Since Lotte is such a good friend of us; we already knew a lot! But maybe the fact that a wedding abroad is kind of a big thing that can be difficult sometimes. We had an amazing location but the people who owned the place didn’t speak English that well and we didn’t speak Spanish, so sometimes it was quite difficult to understand each other, and therefore we had to fly back and forward a lot.

“I have seen her building up her business from the start and now I finally got to experience that she is so amazing at her job.”

IF I COULD GIVE OTHER BRIDES TO BE ONE PIECE OF ADVICE
Hire a wedding planner who you trust completely. Lotte was besides our guest, and dear friend, also our wedding planner in Amsterdam and I was completely chilled out on that day because I knew she took care of it and it would be perfect. With our wedding in Spain she advised us as an amazing wedding consultant, but we left the operations to the location and their vendors, because we wanted Lotte to finally enjoy a wedding as a guest instead of a planner. But I noticed that I was much more tense then I was in the Netherlands because I had to trust different vendors to make it work but due to the language barrier that was sometimes hard. Luckily it all went perfect and everyone had an amazing time so in the end; I was stressed out for nothing. But I guess that being nervous for the big day is kind of normal..

GETTING MARRIED WITH THE HELP OF LOTTE MEANS TO US
She gave me peace and rest. She was my listening ear from the day I started planning our wedding. I have seen her building up her business from the start and now I finally got to experience that she is so amazing at her job. She is so passionate about it. She always stays calm, looks for possibilities, listens to you and how you imagine it should be like and most important; she is so authentic! And that’s such an amazing strength. She doesn’t want to create the ‘picture perfect wedding’ she wants to create ‘the perfect dream wedding for you and you fiancé’ by listening to the people who are sitting in front of her and giving it a little touch of “Lotte”. And I personally think that in these days, being authentic is a true gift! I am so proud of her (sorry for this cheesy talk, but I mean every word of it).
